Emberwick
Public — The Town
Emberwick is a mill town on the Ember, three days downriver from the high passes, and it is content to be thought dull. Flour and river toll built the guildhall, and the same money keeps the lamps lit for Cinderwake each autumn, when the vale comes down to burn the year's husks on the water. In festival season the mill runs day and night, and the ferry crosses on the hour. On the bluff above the north bank stands the watchtower, which burned hollow in a storm sixty years ago and was never built up again. Goats graze in it now.
The toll tables are posted by the door of the guildhall, and inside hangs the surveyor's plate of the town: Map of Emberwick. The Wicklight has four rooms to let, and from Ricking on it brews its festival dark. Ask there for Bell.
